Understanding your anxiety, and finding relief.
A thorough psychiatric assessment and treatment plan for adults living with anxiety, panic or persistent stress -combining medication review, when appropriate, with practical, structured support.
More than everyday worry
Everyone feels anxious sometimes, but an anxiety disorder is different: the worry, fear or physical tension is persistent, feels difficult to control, and starts interfering with work, relationships or daily life. This can take several forms -generalised anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, or stress that has built up over time and stopped easing on its own.
Anxiety is highly treatable. A proper assessment looks at the pattern and triggers of your anxiety, your physical health, and your current circumstances, to build a plan that actually fits your life.
What anxiety can look like day to day
Anxiety shows up differently from person to person -physically, mentally and behaviourally. Some of the most common patterns include:
Persistent worry
Difficulty controlling worry about everyday things, often anticipating the worst outcome.
Panic attacks
Sudden episodes of intense fear with physical symptoms -racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness.
Physical tension
Muscle tension, headaches, fatigue, or digestive symptoms with no clear medical cause.
Sleep difficulties
Trouble falling asleep due to racing thoughts, or waking up feeling on edge.
Avoidance
Avoiding situations, places or conversations that trigger anxiety, which can gradually shrink daily life.
Difficulty concentrating
Mind going blank or racing, making it hard to focus at work or in conversation.
How anxiety is assessed and treated
A structured process, built around what's actually driving your anxiety.
Clinical assessment
A detailed conversation about your symptoms, triggers, physical health and personal circumstances.
Ruling out contributing factors
Considering physical health, medication, caffeine or lifestyle factors that can worsen anxiety symptoms.
Treatment plan
A tailored plan -which may include medication review, structured self-management strategies, and CBT -agreed together.
Follow-up & adjustment
Regular review to monitor progress and adjust the plan as things improve or circumstances change.
Many patients find CBT therapy particularly effective for anxiety, alongside or instead of medication.
Consultations for anxiety & stress
Ongoing care is billed as a standard consultation -there is no separate rate for anxiety specifically.
Fees
Anxiety & stress -your questions
Do I need medication for anxiety?
Not necessarily -many people manage anxiety well with therapy and lifestyle strategies alone. Medication is one option among several, discussed and decided together based on the severity and impact of your symptoms.
How is anxiety different from stress?
Stress is usually a response to a specific pressure or situation and tends to ease once it passes. Anxiety can persist even without a clear trigger, and often involves a pattern of worry that's hard to control.
Do you offer online consultations?
Yes, follow-up consultations and medication reviews can be carried out by secure video call. Initial assessments are generally recommended in person.
Are your fees covered by insurance?
Many private health insurers offer partial cover for psychiatric consultations. I'd recommend checking directly with your provider, as cover varies by plan.
